Family Yoga... Ain't Nothing but LOVE
Okay, so this piece of work isn't just for adults, but the emphasis is certainly on strengthening the bond between you - the adult - and your child :) In this video, Gopala (Founder of Rainbow Kids Yoga) is being interviewed about the use of yoga with families on a popular Australian TV show: 'The Circle'. The clip was shot during a 3-day teacher training in Melbourne years ago - I received the same training with Rainbow Kids Yoga in Tampa 2012 to establish myself as a Certified Children's Yoga Teacher (CCYT).

Yoga Nidra... The Gift of Divine 'Yogic Sleep'

Simply put, there is simply too much stress in this world, with too few opportunities for release. Stress shows up inside of our bodies as dis-ease; inside of our minds, as di-quiet; and inside of our hearts, as dis-contentment. In these stress-ridden states, we are far from being in touch with our true essence and true nature. Unable to access the deep healing comfort that is available to all of us at the deepest levels of our awareness - particularly accessed during sleep - we are often desperate for Band Aids. Anything to numb the pain, quiet the mind and still the emotional chaos - a reality I know all too well.
In 2008, desperately searching for viable means to de-stress as an individual living with chronic conditions and as a caregiver desiring to provide meaningful interventions to others – suffering from chronic stress; I was first introduced to the practice of yoga nidra by a colleague. After only one guided practice, I signed up for a 5 week course, after which I toted resources in an effort to share the practice with others up until 2018; when I elected to invest in a 5-day intensive for certification as a guide.
Yoga nidra is a deeply restorative, guided meditation practice based on the biology of your own body and done without effort. All you have to do is lie down and listen. The practice is ancient and empirical support for its use in the treatment of all stress-related illnesses, a growing number of acute conditions, psychological challenges, & insomnia - is on the rise! For more information on the technique &/or to familiarize yourself with my particular style, which uses techniques like body sensing, vivid natural imagery, and the use of a sankalpa or heartfelt intention; please explore Divine Sleep Yoga NIdra (R) with Jennifer Reis.
Look for series classes in and around Columbus or contact me to arrange for group practice - perhaps you have a small collection of friends in need of stress-reduction or your company is looking to facilitate a meaningful respite for their employees? I would be happy to offer individual coaching, too. Yogis have toted for centuries that as little as 20-45 minutes of yoga nidra practice is as restorative as 3 hours of sleep!

Meditation in Motion... Moving Mindfully to Heal the Body, MInd & Spirit
Mindful movement is an art form unto itself. Inspired by the various forms of walking meditation and mindful yoga practiced in MBSR, Kripalu-style yoga and the Nia Technique with continued education in the 'Moving to Heal Technique' – I rejoice in offering education and practice options for movement-based forms of meditation.
Typically, I emphasize the use of breath-based exploratory movement as a means of empowering participants into the role of sensory scientist; the practice of non-judgment, in which we engage the mind in observation rather than evaluation to develop a sense of softened curiosity; as well as the practice of non-striving in an effort to recognize patterns in movement and in mental conditioning. We typically play with the felt experiences of both physical exertion and rest, all while practicing the art that is 'your body's way'. Classes tend to include the use of evocative music and a final guided relaxation, although theme and respective content are largely adapted to meet the needs of an identified group. Series ideas include: Movement-Based Forms of Meditation as Medicine, Self-Care for Caregivers; Yoga for Anxiety Management; Meditation in Motion for Monkey Minds; and Self-Compassion in Motion. See my Calendar of Events for upcoming AND previously conducted group programs like these. |
