**About TEEN YOGA: Any & all teens are welcome to join Ms. Bri for a MONTHLY 60 minute yoga class to help fund the Y.E.S. Gainesville initiative. Youth Empowered Solutions (Y.E.S.) Gainesville is a thoughtful alliance of teens & tweens, committed to the values of inclusion, tolerance & fairness; and dedicated to the establishment of youth-informed politics in Gainesville, FL. It is the mission of this group to explore the content & accuracy of mass media; to remain up to date on important issues; to meet with local politicians; spread truth through social media; participate in meaningful community service; and work towards progressive change. Any & all interested middle & high school students are welcomed to attend a Formal or Informal meet-up at their leisure. Participation in respective yoga is an entirely separate event, although proceeds will support the growth of this group.
Ms. Brianna Schiavoni has a B.A. in Psychology & a Masters in Clinical Social Work (MSW). As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) & Children’s Yoga Teacher, she works with children managing chronic conditions, like ADHD, anxiety & diabetes. Committed to developing models for innovative & affordable mental health services, she relies on the support of student volunteers to maintain sliding-scale rates (inclusive of services at NO COST) for families in need.
Therapeutic yoga for youth, specialized therapeutic groups, therapeutic camps, & community initiatives necessitate the use of student volunteers, who are empowered to explore respective vocational interests at the time of interview. It is the hope of Ms. Schiavoni that each volunteer receive mutual benefit from respective work.
Volunteers (12 – 20 hours per month) can expect to receive personalized training in behavioral & interpersonal modalities, along with exposure to the principles & practices of yoga therapy.
Sunday availability is crucial for involvement in therapeutic yoga. Friday evening availability (6-8PM) is necessary for those interested in helping with a growing group of politically active teens (Y.E.S. Gainesville).
For those interested in Internship (20 – 40 hours per month), expectations will derive from community needs & shared interests (between Intern & Supervisor). Most work will be conducted on the student’s own time (i.e. independent special projects).
Applicants are expected to maintain commitment to respective roles for > 1 academic semester. Interested parties should send a resume with cover letter, including (a) what about the position interests you & (b) general scheduling availability - to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Yoga 4 Youth classes will be suspended during summer months (June-August) with tentative plans to resume in the fall (September). Ms. Bri would like to poll interest & availability for the continuation of these classes & before establishing a seasonal schedule. Please take 60 seconds to participate in this Doodle Poll? http://doodle.com/poll/yakp6esswv6wuvse
Please note that options with (*) are available to children 12+. All classes have been a labor of love - families consistently request weekend times (which Ms. Bri is willing to give up IF attendance is sufficient); but participation has been inconsistent to date (which means that the cost of the venue ends up outweighing the profit of the class & a weekend given up). Please help us in helping you to deliver therapeutic yoga to your child by participating in this poll.
We, at Milestones in the Making, would like to extend scholarships to as many as six children from the community – to participate in our therapeutic camps this summer.
Children in need of therapeutic intervention with limited family resources can either be nominated by donors or by school personnel. Two scholarship slots are available at the following camps – the cost for a single student to attend the empowerment camp is $425; the yoga camp is $325. We are happy to accept any monetary donation – big or small.
If you are interested & able to make a donation for scholarship &/or would like to nominate a child, please contact Ms. Brianna Schiavoni at Mindful.Milestones@gmail.com or call 352.871.4624. Together, we can grow resilience within our community.
In Loving Kindness,
Brianna Schiavoni, LCSW, YTT200
